Our cylinder technicians are at the heart of our service department and like everyone at Wil-Tech their primary goal is to make working with Wil-Tech the smoothest experience possible, while providing the highest quality service and workmanship. Inspection
Wil-Tech provides cylinder inspection services, our technicians perform a thorough visual assessment for a variety of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders as well as electro-mechanical actuators including tie rod, telescopic, OEM, welded cylinders, and more… Our technicians understand the costs associated with replacing and refurbishing cylinders and we provide our clients the best information possible to make their decision.

Certification (IQAN Digital Pressure Test)
Wil-Tech provides cylinder certifications by utilizing an in-house IQAN Cylinder Testing Unit. Our technicians outfit cylinders with pressure transducers, then run a series of tests to isolate pressure and ensure the cylinder holds pressure on the rod and piston side while measuring for leakage. Cylinder tests result in a certification report, with details regarding the cylinder, the testing environment, technician notes and a visualization of pressure on each port.

Honing (40’ long)
Wil-Tech provides cylinder barrel honing services as a part of cylinder rebuild and custom cylinder builds. Our in-house automated honing bench is capable of honing barrels up to 40’ long up to 21” in diameter. The process of honing employs abrasive machining stones attached to a spindle that is inserted and withdrawn while being spun effectively removing material while improving bore geometry and surface finish. If the cylinder finish is too rough, seals can wear out quickly, if the cylinder finish is too smooth, seals may leak. Utilizing a hone our technicians can achieve a proper cylinder surface that improves a cylinders performance and identify problems such as cylinder budge and barrel scaring that may have been causing a cylinder’s sealing problems.
55,000ft/lb Nut Buster
Wil-Tech provides cylinder tear down services utilizing a 40’ cylinder tear down bench along with a 55,000 ft/lb Nut Buster. Our highly trained and experienced cylinder technicians routinely work with heavy-duty industrial cylinders for mining, construction, water treatment, power generation, etc… where cylinders can require significant torque to both break and make piston nut and gland threads. Additionally our Nut Buster is equipped with an IQAN monitoring system and is capable of producing reports that record cylinder data and torque readings.
Machining and Welding
Wil-Tech offers cylinder machining and welding services, our machine department work hand in hand supporting each other. Our machinists and welders offer a vast depth of knowledge and safety oversight to our cylinder department, modifying cylinders that experience high pressure while in production requires an extensive understanding of machining and welding and their effects on pressurized vessels. Heating a cylinder during welding has the potential to weaken the structural integrity of the barrel enabling pressure to deform the barrel, causing sealing issues and/or gland thread binding issues, therefore we highly recommend our clients allow our highly skilled and qualified machinists and welders perform such tasks to avoid damage to their assets, or a potentially life threatening situation.
Cleaning, Sandblasting & Painting
Wil-Tech provides paint preparation and painting services for cylinders. Wil-Tech houses an industrial part washing unit, sandblasting cabinet and paint booth for full service component paint preparation and painting. Our technicians take pride in sending our client’s cylinders out the door working and looking as close to as new as possible.
Performance Testing and Benchmarking Service
Wil-Tech provides cylinder performance and benchmarking services to test and compare cylinders to ensure efficiency and application specific load, pressure and vacuum ratings. In addition to certifications we provide a testing service that goes beyond confirming a cylinder is functionally, we test to ensure a cylinder is working to specification and ensure it is suitable for an application before being installed.
Troubleshooting
Wil-Tech provides cylinder troubleshooting services on-site and in-house, our technicians perform a thorough review of hydraulic, pneumatic and electro-mechanical systems and their cylinders for a vast variety of applications. Wil-Tech offers mobile on-site mechanics outfitted with the tools and experience to identify cylinder problems often without removing a cylinder from operations.
In cases where a cylinder requires further internal inspection our service centre is equipped with two 5 ton cranes capable of handling most of the cylinders in use in the region, including picker boom cylinders, excavator cylinders, outriggers, and a host of other heavy-duty cylinders. Once removed, troublesome cylinders can be installed on our IQAN cylinder test stand for further analysis.
Our technicians work meticulously to identify problems before they turn catastrophic and into costly repairs or replacements. We understand the cost of downtime and the importance of keeping your equipment running for as long as possible, preventative maintenance can go a long way but when cylinders aren’t performing as expected our technicians can determine causes before systems are damaged and catastrophic failure occurs. Don’t risk running a malfunctioning cylinder.
Custom Cylinder Fabrication
Wil-Tech provides custom cylinder fabrication, a service that includes milling, lathing, honing, welding, drilling, and boring to produce all components of a cylinder in a diversity selection of materials. Custom building cylinders requires experience to ensure cylinders function efficiently and safely, particularly while under high pressure; this requires an extensive understanding of machining and welding and their effects on pressurized vessels. Our machinists and welders offer a vast depth of knowledge and work with clients from conception to finished product, while our CAD technicians work alongside them producing manufactured drawings, assembly drawings, schematics, 3D renderings, and bill of materials. In addition we partner with engineering firms, to certified our drawings, and provide additional support where required.
